Srinagar, Oct 11, KDC: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has registered a case against a police officer for allegedly possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income, and conducted searches at his residential premises in Budgam following court orders.
An official of the Anti-Corruption Bureau told Kashmir Dot Com that the case FIR No. 20/2025 has been registered at Police Station ACB Srinagar against Peer Zada Mushtaq Ahmad Shah, son of Peer Zada Mohammad Akber Shah, resident of Wahabpora, Budgam, Inspector (M), who was serving as Cashier at District Police Office (DPO), Bandipora. The official said the case was registered for possession of assets disproportionate to the officer’s known sources of income.
The official said that the FIR followed a secret verification into allegations that the accused officer had accumulated huge movable and immovable assets in his own name and in the names of his family members far beyond his legitimate income during his service period.
During the discreet probe, it came to light that the accused and his family members had acquired substantial property, including landholdings in Budgam district, a double-storey palatial residential house at Ompora Colony, Budgam, several bank accounts with large balances, multiple vehicles, and had incurred heavy expenditure on foreign travel, education of children, and insurance premiums.
“The scrutiny of bank accounts revealed suspicious transactions and unexplained cash inflows routed through multiple accounts operated by the accused and his family members. The assessment of income vis-à-vis expenditure indicated that the officer’s legitimate earnings during the period from January 2012 to June 2025 were grossly insufficient to justify the assets and expenditures observed,” the official said.
The findings, the ACB official added, suggest that the accused had illicitly enriched himself by resorting to corrupt and dishonest practices, thereby committing offences punishable under the relevant provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018).
“Accordingly, FIR No. 20/2025 under Section 13(1)(b) read with Section 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered at Police Station ACB Srinagar against the said public servant for criminal misconduct and possession of disproportionate assets,” the ACB official said.
He said that immediately after the registration of the case, and in compliance with the Court Order dated October 10, 2025, searches were conducted at two residential houses of the accused in District Budgam.
“Further investigation is underway to determine the full extent of the illegally acquired wealth by the accused and his associates,” the ACB official added. (KDC)
