Srinagar, Sep 17, KDC: The State Investigation Agency (SIA) on Wednesday arrested a ‘key’ narcotic smuggler, Zafraan Khan, son of Shafi Ullah Khan of Mohra Dawran, Uri, Baramulla, who had been absconding for over three years in a narco-terror case. He was apprehended by a special SIA team from Kathua district, dealing a severe blow to the Pakistan-backed narco-terror module.
The module had been involved in smuggling narcotic substances through the LoC in Uri sector and their subsequent transportation and sale in Kashmir and Jammu, the agency said in a statement to news agency Kashmir Dot Com (KDC), adding that the proceeds were channeled to sustain terrorism in the region. The arrest is linked to FIR No. 13/2022 under the NDPS Act and UA(P)A, which had earlier led to the recovery of one kilogram of heroin, seven kilograms of poppy straw, and four kilograms of poppy seeds. A chargesheet has already been filed against five members of the module.
SIA said this arrest will help track both forward and backward linkages to dismantle narco-terror networks in the Valley. The agency has recently intensified its crackdown, with the arrest of another absconder, Abdul Rashid Bhat, from Pulwama last week, underlining its sustained efforts to dismantle the terror ecosystem.
