Srinagar, Aug 25 (KDC): Severe weather is set to grip parts of Jammu and Kashmir over the next 48 hours, with Tuesday expected to bring the harshest conditions, according to an independent forecast by Kashmir Weather.
The advisory warns of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in several districts of Jammu, including Kathua, Samba, Doda, and Kishtwar, raising the risk of flash floods, landslides, and swelling rivers. Water levels could rise above the flood alarm mark by Tuesday. Poonch, however, is likely to be least affected.
In the Valley, South Kashmir is projected to face the maximum impact, especially in the higher reaches where intense rainfall — and even snowfall on upper reaches of the Pir Panjal — could trigger flash floods and downstream surges. Central Kashmir may see moderate showers, while North Kashmir is expected to remain largely unaffected.
Residents have been cautioned against trekking or venturing into mountainous areas until Wednesday, amid warnings of flash floods, shooting stones, and possible travel disruptions across high passes. People living in low-lying and flood-prone areas have also been urged to stay alert. (KDC)
