New Delhi, Aug 20, KDC: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta was allegedly attacked during a ‘Jan Sunwai’ programme at her official residence in Civil Lines on Wednesday morning, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) claimed.
A senior police officer told KDC that a man from Gujarat, aged around 35, has been detained in connection with the incident and further inquiry is underway. Senior police officers rushed to the spot soon after the incident, officials said.
Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva “strongly” condemned the attack on the chief minister during her weekly public hearing. “Such incidents are unacceptable and raise serious concerns about the safety of our leaders,” he said in a statement.
Party sources said the man first handed over some papers to the CM during the programme and then allegedly attempted to attack her.
Police are probing the motive behind the attack and are questioning the accused. (KDC)
