Srinagar, July 11 (KDC): The school education department is likely to implement revised school timings across Kashmir from Monday, in a move aimed at easing early morning challenges for students, particularly younger children.
According to media reports quoting Education Minister Sakina Itoo, the government is considering a change in daily school schedules in response to weather improvements and concerns raised by parents and educators. “There is a strong possibility that new timings will be introduced from Monday,” the minister said.
She stated that if approved, schools falling within the Srinagar Municipal limits will operate from 8:30 am to 2:30 pm, while schools in other districts and outside municipal areas will function from 9 am to 3 pm. The decision, she said, is being taken in view of better weather conditions following recent rainfall, which brought down the temperature.
Previously, schools had resumed post-summer break with shortened hours—7:30 am to 11:30 am in urban areas and 8 am to 12 noon in rural zones. These timings, however, drew criticism from parents who urged the department to either revise them or extend the summer vacation further due to the harsh heatwave earlier this month.
Minister Sakina Itoo also hinted that the department will review school timings again in the coming months to adjust for early winter conditions. “We are committed to student comfort and will continue to make decisions based on seasonal changes,” she said.
