Srinagar, June 20, KDC: The Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB), Srinagar OF Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), has registered a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 against a serving Assistant Accounts Officer of the J&K State Handloom Development Corporation for allegedly demanding a bribe of ₹15,000 from a retired employee to process pension-related corrections.

According to details in the First Information Report, a copy of which is in the possession of Srinagar based news agency Kashmir Dot Com, the complainant, who is a retired employee of the Corporation, alleged that an incorrect deduction of ₹1,49,010 under “EP Fund – Employees Share” was reflected in Form-9 sent to the AG’s office in connection with his pension. When the complainant approached the concerned official, Nasir Ahmad Dar, on June 11, the officer allegedly demanded ₹15,000 to rectify the error and provide the necessary forms/documents.

Bhat refused to pay the bribe and submitted a written complaint on June 14, following which  a team of the CBI-ACB conducted a prompt verification. As per the Verification Memo dated June 14, the demand for bribe by Dar was prima facie substantiated.

The FIR states: “The aforesaid facts prima facie reveal commission of a cognizable offence by public servant Nasir Ahmad Dar… punishable under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2019) and as applicable to J&K under the J&K Reorganization Act, 2019.”

Subsequently, a regular case has been registered, and an Inspector rank officer has been entrusted with the investigation, the FIR further notes.

The alleged incident occurred at the Sanat Ghar office, Bemina, Srinagar, around 7 km from the local police station. (KDC)
