New Delhi, Apr 25: A senior Russian general, Yaroslav Moskalik, has been killed in a car bomb explosion in Moscow. The incident marks a significant escalation in the conflict, as it suggests an evolving strategy to target high-ranking military figures within Russian territory.
General Moskalik had previously represented Russia during the Minsk negotiations in 2014 and 2015 and held an influential position within the country’s military establishment. He is now the tenth Russian general reportedly killed since the start of the Russia-Ukraine war in 2022, as reported by the BBC.
While earlier losses occurred near the battlefield, this attack signals a shift in tactics, with targets increasingly struck far from the frontlines. General Moskalik’s death follows a pattern of strikes on key pro-Kremlin figures inside Russia. The killing comes at a politically sensitive moment, as U.S. President Donald Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, is in Moscow for discussions with President Vladimir Putin regarding potential peace talks over the war in Ukraine.
