Srinagar, Feb 5, KDC: Hurriyat leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has termed the reported detention of over 500 people across Kashmir after the killing of a retired serviceman in Kulgam as “unprecedented” and an act of “harassment.”
He urged authorities to release those detained, stating that targeting family members of individuals associated with militancy only worsens the situation.
In a post on ‘X’ (formerly Twitter), Mirwaiz as per Kashmir Dot Com wrote: “Reports in Indian Express of massive detention across the Kashmir Valley of over 500 people taking place after the unfortunate killing of a retired serviceman, is unprecedented. Every such killing and causing injury to innocents is condemnable, but to target and detain in hundreds family members and relatives of those associated with militancy, because of their relationship, is harassment. It vitiates the atmosphere and furthers hostility. Authorities should release these people immediately.” (KDC)
