Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir will not move forward unless its statehood is restored, Minister for Science & Technology, IT, Youth Services, and Sports Satish Sharma said on Sunday.
Speaking at the inauguration of the first-ever snow skiing course in Sonamarg, Sharma expressed hope that the central government would soon grant statehood, calling it a “necessary gift” for the region’s development.
“J&K is the crown of India and needs special attention. We are waiting for the restoration of statehood, which will enable better governance and economic opportunities,” he said.
The minister also emphasized the need to expand resources, saying that the current financial limitations were hindering large-scale development.
On sports infrastructure, Sharma announced plans to develop Sonamarg into a premier tourist and sports destination. “With recent investments in the region, we will broaden ice skating areas, build a multi-sport facility, and establish a hostel for athletes.”
He also assured Rehbar-e-Khel teachers that he would take up their concerns with the central government to secure permanent employment opportunities for them.
Sharma highlighted the role of sports in keeping youth away from drug abuse and excessive mobile usage, stating that such initiatives would pave the way for a better future for J&K. (KDC)
