Srinagar: On the 42nd Foundation Day of Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Chief Minister Omar Abdullah emphasized that restoring the autonomy of SKIMS is a top priority for his government.
Addressing the event, Omar acknowledged the institution’s vital role in regional healthcare despite challenges such as outdated equipment, financial limitations, and staff shortages. He noted that SKIMS’ autonomy, which once ensured efficient operations, has been compromised, affecting its ability to address critical issues like power failures and procurement delays.
The CM pledged to restore the institute’s operational independence and address staffing shortages, particularly in nursing, to improve its services. Omar reaffirmed his government’s commitment to supporting SKIMS with modern technology and upgraded infrastructure, ensuring it continues to serve the people of Jammu and Kashmir effectively.
