Srinagar: National Conference (NC) Member of Parliament, Ruhullah Mehdi has issued a strong warning to Congress leaders against misinterpreting the resolution passed by the Jammu & Kashmir Legislative Assembly in its last session.
Referring to recent remarks by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and J&K Pradesh Congress Committee President Tariq Karra, Mehdi asd per Kashmir Dot Com asserted the resolution’s clear demand for restoring J&K’s special status.
In a pointed post on X (formerly Twitter), Mehdi stated, “No INC president or JKPCC president has a right to misinterpret the resolution passed by the J&K Legislative Assembly in the last session. The resolution is a reflection of the people’s disapproval of the unconstitutional abrogation of J&K’s guaranteed special status from 1953 to 2019.”
The resolution, passed during the Assembly’s first session last week, calls for a dialogue with the Union Territory’s elected representatives to restore constitutional guarantees, including special status, in their original form. Mehdi said that any deviation from the resolution’s intent would be firmly rejected by the people of J&K.
“This resolution unequivocally calls for the return of all guarantees in their original shape and form as they were before 1953, including Article 370 and 35A,” Mehdi said.
Taking a sharp tone, he warned against internal or external misrepresentation of the resolution, saying, “Even if anyone from within the National Conference tries to twist the resolution against the wishes of the people, they will be pushed into irrelevance, much like BJP’s allies in the last election.”
The NC and Congress contested the Assembly elections in alliance, securing 49 out of 90 seats. However, Congress chose not to join the government. (KDC)
