Srinagar: Reports of an alleged attack on the Vice-Chancellor of Kashmir University near Zakura on the outskirts of Srinagar last evening could not be substantiated, according to Srinagar Police. Police officials who investigated the site found no physical evidence, such as bullet marks, to support claims of the attack.

A top police officer told news agency Kashmir Dot Com that police teams were immediately dispatched to the scene and conducted a thorough search of the area. However, nothing corroborating the reported incident was discovered. Additionally, residents and officers stationed at a nearby police checkpoint reported hearing no gunfire, apart from rounds fired by security personnel accompanying the Vice-Chancellor.

The security detail reportedly fired cautionary rounds in response to what they perceived as a potential threat, although no specific danger was identified. Authorities have confirmed that the matter is under further investigation to ascertain the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.

The Vice-Chancellor remains safe, and police are examining the sequence of events that led to the initial suspicion. Further updates are expected as the inquiry progresses.

Reports said that around 7:00 PM, as the Vice Chancellor was returning home from the university, her vehicle reportedly was hit with a ‘stone’ at Pathan Colony in Zakura. In response, her security detail fired a few precautionary shots. No injuries or loss of life were reported in the incident. (KDC)
