Srinagar, August 10, KDC: Highly trained militants who infiltrated South Kashmir from Jammu’s Doda district have encountered security forces, resulting in the deaths of two Army personnel and two civilians in the Kapran Garol forest area of Kokernag in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
According to the Army, as per the Srinagar-based news gathering agency Kashmir Dot Com, it was confirmed through human and electronic intelligence that on August 5, 2024, these militants, responsible for recent incidents in Doda, crossed the Kishtwar range into South Kashmir.
“The Rashtriya Rifles and Jammu & Kashmir Police have been relentlessly tracking these militants since their infiltration. On the night of August 9 and 10, 2024, precise operations were launched in the mountainous terrain east of Kapran, where the militants were reportedly holed up,” the Army said.
“At approximately 1400 hours on August 10, suspicious movement was observed in the area. When challenged by security forces, the militants responded with indiscriminate firing. During the ensuing exchange, two Army personnel and two civilians in the vicinity were injured. The identities and potential terror affiliations of the injured civilians are being investigated,” the Army said in a statement.
“The Kapran Garol area, situated at an altitude of over 10,000 feet, poses a challenging environment for security operations due to its thick undergrowth, large boulders, and rugged terrain. Despite these obstacles, security forces are proceeding cautiously to track and neutralize the militants. The operation is expected to continue through the night as forces work diligently to secure the area,” the Army added.
Meanwhile, two soldiers have succumbed to injuries, while civilians are being treated in a hospital. The operation is ongoing, and further details are awaited. (KDC)
