Srinagar, Apr 25, KDC: In the electoral arena of Srinagar parliamentary constituency, the economic and legal profiles of the candidates starkly contrast. Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) nominee, Waheed-ur-Rahman Parra, emerges as the underdog with meager assets, while his contender from the Apni Party, Muhammad Ashraf Mir, boasts considerable wealth.
According to Srinagar based new agency Kashmir Dot Com, Parra’s financial declaration portrays him as the poorest candidate, with assets valued at Rs 32 lakh and a modest monthly income not exceeding Rs 40,000. His recent income figures are humbling, particularly due to his detention in the years 2020 to 2022, rendering him unable to earn during that period. Parra’s legal entanglements, reflected in FIRs lodged against him under various sections of the UAPA Act and IPC. Despite these challenges, he presents ancestral land and a modest ancestral house as his primary assets.
In his election documents, Parra stated that two police cases have been filed against him: one at NIA Jammu Police Station and the other at CIK Srinagar Police Station. In the financial years 2022-23 and 2023-24, he earned Rs. 4,51,270 and Rs. 4,70,310, respectively.
As per the affidavit, Parra has completed a Master’s in International Relations (Peace and Conflict Studies) from the Islamic University of Kashmir.
In contrast, Ashraf Mir of Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party emerges as a candidate of substantial means, boasting a net worth of nearly Rs 31 crore. His affidavit details significant movable and immovable assets, including substantial holdings by his spouse. Mir’s financial robustness stands in stark contrast to Parra’s modest means, setting the stage for a contest shaped by socioeconomic disparities. (KDC)
