Srinagar, Aug 30, KDC: Three militants have been killed in the gunfight that raged on Tuesday afternoon in the south Kashmir’s Shopian district, police said.

Police said on Tuesday afternoon security forces had launched a cordon and search operation in the Nagbal area of Shopian on receiving specific inputs about presence of militants, during which militants opened fire upon forces to which the forces retaliated.

The Kashmir Police Zone while quoting ADGP Vijay Kumar wrote, “The 3 killed militants have been identified as local militants of LeT namely Danish Khursheed Bhat, Tanveer Wani & Tawseef Bhat. They were involved in several militant crime cases. Militant Danish was involved in the recruitment of youth into militant ranks in Shopian.”

One of the slain Tawseef Ahmed Bhat, a 23-year-old had been missing from his home since May in Shopian’s Zainapora.  An engineering student, Tawseef left and did not return home.

As per police records, all the killed militants were categorized militants and involved in several terror crime cases including attacks on Police/security forces and civilian atrocities. It is pertinent to mention that the killed militants Danish Khursheed Bhat and Tanveer Ahmad Wani who were active since Aug-2021, were trying to revive the terror folds by recruiting & motivating the gullible youth to join terror folds. Moreover, the killed militant Danish Khursheed had earlier escaped from several encounters.

Incriminating materials, arms & ammunition were recovered from the site of encounter. All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation.
