Srinagar June 28, KDC: People in north Kashmir have decided to boycott the Divisional Commissioner’s Wagoora Block Divas meeting, saying it will be difficult for them to reach the venue.
They say the venue has been shifted on political considerations, creating inconvenience for the common people who had to travel a long distance to reach the venue.
“Over the past three years, the government’s outreach programs of Block Wagoora are mostly happening outside Wagoora apparently on political considerations. It has created anguish and consternation among the locals, who say they are being discriminated against and a wedge is being created between them and the Government,” reads a letter sent by Citizens Welfare Forum Wagoora to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and top officials of the civil and police administration.
“Until Tuesday morning, we were preparing for the event at Wagoora where the program was scheduled to happen as per what government officials communicated to us. The sudden cancellation of the Block Divas at Wagoora for unknown reasons has created anguish among the people,” it said.
The people have urged the government to cancel the function proposed at Kreeri village immediately and conduct it at Wagoora Block so that the majority of the people in the jurisdiction of the Block Wagoora will have access to the officials and spell out their grievances.
“We have been informed by ACD office Baramulla Yar Ali Khan that the function has been held at Kreeri because the department has not got a security clearance to hold it at Wagoora. But top police officials termed it baseless information spread by the Rural Development Department,” the CWF member Parvaiz Ahmad told Kashmir Dot Com.
“We request the police department to provide security for the event and hold it at Wagoora otherwise we will be forced to boycott the event,” he said.
“It seems the BDO and BDC don’t want people to get access to the top officials so that their corrupt and illegal practices are exposed. If the program is not cancelled at Kreeri, we will boycott the function,” reads the letter. (KDC)
