A lady lawyer was hospitalised after being assaulted by an opposition party client in the courtroom in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district.

Police swung into action and arrested the man responsible for the assault.

The incident occurred in the courtroom of Judicial Magistrate Bandipora on Saturday.

Eyewitnesses said that without any ‘provocation’ the opposite client assaulted a lady lawyer identified as Advocate Shabnam Mushtaq. The lady sustained injuries on her face and head and was hospitalised after the assault.

Police shortly after the incident arrested the accused. A police officer confirmed that accused has been booked under relevant sections of law and investigation has been taken up.

The lawyers’ community have expressed anguish over the assault and demanded stringent punishment to the accused.
