The Jammu and Kashmir administration has decided to lift the covid-19 restrictions in a phased manner starting Sunday, Press Trust of India reported.

This comes as the government has extended the coronavirus-induced lockdown in the Union Territory till 15 June in a bid to contain the COVID spread.

As part of the unlocking, stand-alone shops, salons and liquor shops will be allowed to operate three days a week, while government and private offices can function at 50 per cent and 33 per cent capacity in Jammu and Kashmir respectively.

Schools, colleges and technical institutions will remain closed for now but universities can resume lectures with 33 per cent attendance from 20 June. Coaching centres, clubs, paid public parks, gyms, bars and swimming pools will remain closed. Public transport, taxis and cabs are allowed to function with 50 per cent capacity from 6 June, and 67 per cent capacity from 20 June.

The administration has permitted the outdoor shopping complexes to operate on alternate days while indoor shopping malls are allowed to open 25 per cent of shops in a rotation system. Restaurants can remain open on all days but only for home delivery.
