Woman dies of asphyxiation in southern Kashmir

Srinagar, Jan 25, KDC: A 36-year-old woman died on Monday due to Asphyxiation caused by coal bukhari (heater) at her house in Bijbehara area of Southern Kashmir.

Local sources told news agency KDC that the 36-year-old lady identified as Masooda Akhter, wife of Late Abdul Rashid Dobi and her daughter (name withheld) were found unconscious at their home at Karewa Colony, Bijbehara. Both mother and daughter were immediately shifted to a nearby hospital where Masooda was declared brought dead; her daughter responded to the treatment given by doctors and was later discharged from the hospital.

A police official while confirming the incident told news agency Kashmir Dot Com- (KDC) that a case has been registered and investigations are underway to ascertain the cause of death, “Apparently the death has occurred owing to suffocation due to Bukhari (coal burning heater)” but further investigations are underway, the police officer added.
