SRINAGAR, May 17: Chairman DDC Srinagar and Apni Party Senior Leader Malik Aftab on Monday made a surprise visit to various health centers at Harwan, Dara, Fakir Gujri and Theed in order to take the stock of situation at ground zero and assess the requisite measures taken by the department of health for tackling the spread of Covid-19 pandemic.

The Chairman led delegation also comprised of DDC Member Shaista, DDC Member Shabir Reshi, DDC Member Ali Mohammad, DDC Member Mohammad Shaban and Apni Party Youth District President Srinagar Mohsin Zaffar Shah.

The Chairman and other members of the District Development Council interacted with the people and listened to their grievances in regards with the availability of vaccines and lifesaving drugs.

“It’s appalling, as the people yearn for getting inoculated as soon as possible, the availability of Covid vaccines at various NTPHCs and PHCs remains absolutely zero. The people are totally confused as even the Cowin website shows no date slot open for the necessary jab registration. The people also complained about the miniscule staff strength at these centers which needs to be beefed up on a prompt basis in view of the covid case spikes,” he demanded.

He said that the spread of this contagious infection has given rise to a desperate situation that can only be averted by mass vaccination drives.

“The people feel dejected and hopeless. It’s the government, especially the health department, that must come to their rescue. I urge the administration to make the adequate vaccine supplies a reality on ground at these health centers along with other essential life saving drugs and emergency oxygen stocks,” Malik urged.

Furthermore, he said that the Covid testing facility needs to be augmented in these health care centres so that the patients can get their Covid results at their nearest local health centers without facing much inconvenience.

“Testing facilities remain imperative in these centers. The people will be relieved from travelling to far off testing centers and it will also minimise the chances of spreading of this contagion. The health department needs to act in an apposite manner so that any untoward situations that may arise due to complacency be forestalled at an earliest,” he demanded. (KDC)
