Srinagar: International Forum for Justice Human Rights JK Monday criticized the administration for allowing a gathering of 100 people while shutting down schools colleges and asking people to pray inside homes.
In a statement, the chairman of IFJHRJK Muhammad Ahsan Untoo lashed out at the Mayor Srinagar Municipal Corporation who in a presser asked people to restrict themselves at homes while allowing gatherings of 100 people in public places and gardens.
Untoo said that the Mayor should instead focus on the cleanliness of the city rather than poking his nose into everything.
“The turncoat should focus on his domain of maintaining cleanliness in the city rather than lecturing people about the SOPs of Covid. This is the job of the administration and the health experts,” he said.
Untoo said that this makes no sense that the administration has shut down colleges, universities and schools while allowing gatherings of 100 people. “This is absurd and will not help in coping with the dangerous spike in coronavirus pandemic.”
He said every gathering has some potential for transmission of the virus. Whenever you come in contact with another person, there is some chance of transmission.
Untoo said that the surge in coronavirus cases is being driven to a significant degree by casual occasions.
Saying the Indian travelers have become the new spreaders of the virus in Kashmir, Untoo said that the whole staff of a top hotel in Srinagar including its owner turned covid positive after some mainland guests spent a few days at the hotel. He said that the travellers were not tested at the airport and were allowed into Srinagar throwing the SOP for a toss. He said there have many other cases where Kashmiri businessmen came in contact with the Indian travellers and later tested positive for the virus.
“The administration should focus on stopping the travellers into Kashmir with a mandatory covid test.”
Untoo alos said that the government is hellbent on going ahead with the annual Yatra amidst a massive surge in the coronavirus cases. “This is going to be disastrous.”
He said that previously 2-2.5 lac yatirs would come to Kashmir. “I fail to understand why the government is punish for 6 lac yatris this year despite the spike.”
He said that the administration should immediately announce the cancellation of the yantra and also bar the Indian travellers from visiting Kashmir.
