SRINAGAR, OCTOBER 27: The Food & Drugs Administration (FDA), Jammu & Kashmir,  suspended the license of M/s ARWAH Packaged Drinking Water, Kakan Maran, Budgam (License No. 11026070000022), following the detection of deficiencies relating to water quality monitoring, food safety management and  statutory documentation during an inspection conducted on October 5, 2026, pursuant to a complaint received against the unit.

The inspection conducted by the Food Safety Officer revealed that the unit lacked an adequate system for testing and monitoring the quality of water being processed and packaged. The requisite records and documentation were not produced for verification, while the bottle-capping and sealing mechanism was found defective, resulting in leakage. These deficiencies raised concerns regarding the effectiveness of quality-control measures, hygienic manufacturing practices and the integrity of the packaged drinking water.

Packaged drinking water is a high-risk food category identified by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), warranting stringent quality-control measures and effective regulatory oversight. Manufacturers are required to ensure that the water processed and packaged for human consumption complies with the applicable food safety standards and that appropriate testing, monitoring, documentation and hygienic controls are maintained throughout the manufacturing process.

A Show Cause Notice was issued to the Food Business Operator on October 7, 2026, seeking an explanation regarding the violations observed. However, no response was received within the stipulated period. Accordingly, in view of the inspection findings and the failure to respond to the notice, the Designated Officer, Food Safety, Budgam, in exercise of the powers conferred under Section 32(3) of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, has ordered the suspension of the license of the unit until further orders. The unit has also been directed to cease all activities at the premises until further orders.

Meanwhile, consumers are being requested to report any suspected unsafe or adulterated food product through email at [email protected]
