Jammu, Sep 10, KDC: The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Thursday arrested an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI), Talib Hussain, posted at Police Post Talwara in Reasi district, for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹5,000.

According to a statement issued by the ACB, a case under FIR No. 08/2026 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, was registered against the accused public servant at ACB Police Station Udhampur.

The ACB said Hussain was acting as the investigating officer in a case and had allegedly demanded illegal gratification from the complainant in exchange for presenting the charge sheet (challan) against the accused persons before a court.

The complainant, unwilling to pay the alleged bribe, approached the ACB and sought legal action. The Bureau said it conducted a discreet verification of the complaint, which “corroborated the officer’s demand for a bribe.”

Subsequently, a trap team headed by a Deputy Superintendent of Police-rank officer was constituted, the statement said.

“During the operation, the ACB team successfully caught ASI Talib Hussain red-handed while he was demanding and accepting a bribe amount of Rs. 5,000 from the complainant,” the Bureau said.

The accused was arrested on the spot following due legal procedure, while the alleged bribe money was recovered from his possession in the presence of independent witnesses, the ACB said.

Further investigation into the case is underway.

The ACB said the latest action was the second successful trap operation at Police Post Talwara in Reasi district during 2026. (KDC)
