Ganderbal, Sep 03, KDC: Jammu and Kashmir Police has seized 14 vehicles in the last five days for their alleged involvement in illegal extraction and transportation of minor minerals across Ganderbal district, police said in a statement.

According to the statement, the seized vehicles include seven tippers, five tractors and two Tata Mobiles. The vehicles were found extracting and transporting mining material without valid authorisation, in violation of prescribed norms, it said.

Police said the vehicles were seized on the spot and the matter was subsequently taken up with the concerned Geology and Mining Department, which imposed requisite fines under the relevant provisions of law.

Police reiterated its commitment to curbing illegal mining activities in the district and urged people to cooperate with law enforcement agencies in protecting natural resources.

“Strict action will continue against those found indulging in such unlawful practices,” the statement said. (KDC)
