Jammu, August 29, KDC: Senior IPS officer Annepu Vijaya Laxmi has been posted as Inspector General of the Central Reserve Police Force’s Jammu Sector, becoming the second woman officer to head the sector.

A 2006-batch IPS officer of the Andhra Pradesh cadre, Vijaya Laxmi according to Kashmir Dot Com has been posted as IG, CRPF Jammu Sector following a recent order. The CRPF’s official Jammu Sector website currently lists her as the sector’s Inspector General.

She succeeds Amol Vinukant Homkar, a 2004-batch IPS officer, who had been heading the Jammu Sector after his posting there earlier this year.

The Jammu Sector is a significant operational formation of the CRPF, with responsibility for administrative and operational supervision of units deployed across the Jammu region. According to the CRPF, the sector oversees 13 battalions deployed in the Jammu area, besides its administrative responsibilities involving Jammu North, Group Centre Jammu and Hiranagar.

Vijaya Laxmi brings extensive experience in policing and administration to the new assignment. The official IPS civil list records her as an RR 20061198 officer, with her date of allotment recorded as December 18, 2006, and lists her at the rank of Inspector General.

The appointment comes at a time when the Jammu region continues to remain a key security theatre, with the CRPF playing an important role in maintaining security, supporting local law-enforcement agencies and conducting operations in areas facing security challenges.

The CRPF Jammu Sector is headquartered at Bantalab, Jammu.

Vijaya Laxmi’s appointment also marks a notable milestone for women officers in the force, with her becoming only the second woman to lead the Jammu Sector. (KDC)
