Srinagar, July 18: Srinagar reeled under intense heat on Saturday as the mercury climbed to 35.9 degrees Celsius, making it the hottest day of the season and one of the warmest July days recorded in recent years.
The unusually high temperature triggered sweltering conditions across the city and other parts of the Kashmir Valley, forcing many residents to limit outdoor movement during the afternoon. Roads, marketplaces, and public spaces witnessed thinner crowds as people sought refuge from the oppressive heat.
With the prolonged spell of hot weather, authorities and health professionals urged the public to remain cautious by drinking plenty of fluids, avoiding unnecessary exposure to the sun during peak hours, and taking extra care of children, elderly people, and those suffering from chronic illnesses.
The surge in temperature also led to increased consumption of electricity and water as households turned to fans, coolers, and other appliances to beat the heat. Meanwhile, weather officials said they are keeping a close watch on the evolving weather pattern and advised residents to stay updated through official forecasts and advisories, as conditions could change over the next few days.
