Srinagar, July 4, KDC: Srinagar Police on Saturday dismissed as false and misleading social media posts claiming that buses carrying pilgrims for the annual Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra had come under attack and caught fire near Lal Chowk in Srinagar.

In a post on X, Srinagar Police clarified that no such incident had taken place and said the viral video being circulated was being falsely linked to the ongoing pilgrimage.

“The video is unrelated to the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra and the claims being circulated are completely false,” the police said, urging the public not to create, share or circulate unverified content capable of causing panic, disturbing public order or spreading misinformation.

Police warned that strict legal action would be taken against individuals found creating, sharing or reposting false and misleading content in violation of applicable laws.

Srinagar Police also appealed to the public to rely only on information disseminated through official government and law enforcement channels and to verify facts before forwarding or sharing any content on social media. (KDC)
