Budgam, Jun 23, KDC: An Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) of the Power Development Department (PDD) posted at Beerwah was taken into custody on Tuesday and, on the directions of a court in Beerwah, will be shifted to Central Jail Srinagar over alleged non-compliance of judicial directions in an electricity dues settlement case.

Reports reaching news agency Kashmir Dot Com (KDC) said that Tajender Veer Singh, presently posted as AEE, PDD Sub-Division Beerwah, was detained through Police Station Beerwah in compliance with the court’s orders and will be lodged at Central Jail Srinagar.

The matter pertains to a consumer, Gulzar Ahmad Zargar of Utligam, Beerwah, who had an outstanding electricity liability of around Rs 1 lakh. The case was taken up before the Lok Adalat, Beerwah, where the consumer availed the PDD Amnesty Scheme and deposited nearly Rs 34,000. The remaining amount was subsequently cleared in instalments and receipts were duly issued.

Sources said that following clearance of the dues, the court of Additional Special Mobile Magistrate Beerwah, Towfeel Ahmad Mir, issued a No Objection Certificate (NOC) and directed the concerned AEE to update the consumer’s account and reduce the outstanding balance to zero. However, the records were allegedly not updated despite the court’s directions.

Taking cognisance of the alleged non-compliance, the court ordered the detention of the concerned officer for a period of 25 days, following which Tajender Veer Singh was taken into custody and is being shifted to Central Jail Srinagar, they added. (KDC)
