Srinagar, May 7, KDC: The Jammu & Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Wednesday registered a Disproportionate Assets (DA) case against Zafar Iqbal-KAS, presently serving as Chief Accounts Officer in the office of the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, J&K, Srinagar.

ACB in a statement to news agency Kashmir Dot Com said, the case was registered after a secret verification into allegations that the officer had amassed assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.

The accused officer, son of Mir Hussain and a resident of Gursai, Mendhar in Poonch district, presently resides at Bathindi in Jammu.

The verification conducted by the ACB reportedly revealed that during his postings at various places, the officer allegedly abused his official position and acquired assets worth crores of rupees in his own name as well as in the names of his family members and relatives.

The ACB said that a prima facie case of criminal misconduct was established against the accused, who was earlier posted as Treasury Officer, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu, before his present posting as Chief Accounts Officer in Srinagar.

Following the verification, FIR No. 06/2026 was registered at Police Station ACB Central, Jammu under Section 13(1)(b) read with Section 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and investigation was initiated.

During the investigation, search warrants were obtained from the Court of Special Judge Anti-Corruption, Jammu, following which ACB teams carried out searches at multiple locations linked to the accused, including his residences at Bathindi, Jammu, Gursai in Mendhar, Poonch, and his official residence at Sanat Nagar, Srinagar.

The ACB said incriminating documents pertaining to movable and immovable properties were recovered and seized during the searches.

Further investigation into the case is underway. (KDC)
