Srinagar, May 07: Government of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday removed the Head of the Department (HoD) of Media Studies at Amar Singh College here following an alleged harassment complaint filed by a student.

Officials said that Dr. Parvaiz Ahmad Lone, HoD of the Department of Media Studies, has been “disassociated” from all academic affairs of the department with immediate effect, pending the outcome of an inquiry.

According to an official order issued by the Principal of Amar Singh College, the action was taken in response to a student demonstration on the college campus over the alleged harassment of a female student.

“In response to the demonstration held by the students of the College regarding the alleged harassment of a female student, Dr. Parvaiz Ahmad Lone, HoD, Department of Media Studies, is disassociated from all academic affairs of the Department with immediate effect, pending the outcome of the inquiry,” the order stated.

The order further said that the college’s Proctorial Board has been tasked with conducting a transparent and time-bound inquiry into the matter and has been directed to submit its report within two days.

Meanwhile, Prof. Nusrat Sayed has been assigned to look after the affairs of the Department of Media Studies till the completion of the investigation, the order added.
