Anantnag, Apr 23, KDC: The Drugs Control Department on Thrusday intensified its enforcement drive across several areas of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, resulting in the closure of four medical shops for violations of norms, officials said.

The inspections were carried out in Lazibal, Sarnal, Cheeni Chowk, Sirgufwara and adjoining areas, with the aim of ensuring compliance with the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940 and preventing misuse of prescription drugs with addiction potential.

Officials said around 15 medical sale establishments were inspected during the drive. Records related to the sale of prescription medicines were scrutinized on the spot to check any irregularities, including possible diversion or misuse.

During the inspection, four medical shops were found non-compliant and were closed on the spot under Section 22(d) of the Act. The shops identified include Kanroo Pharmacy, Lazibal, ALL MS Medicate, Sarnal KP Road, Murad Medicate, Sarnal KP Road and Atif Medical Shop, Cheeni Chowk

The department reiterated its zero-tolerance policy towards violations, stating that strict action will be taken against those found compromising public health norms.

Officials added that such inspection drives will continue across the district to ensure the availability of safe, standard and quality medicines to the public and to curb the misuse of regulated drugs.

Further action in identified cases is underway, they said. (KDC)
