Anantnag, Feb 13: Acting on directions to ensure strict enforcement of drug regulations, the Drugs Control Department, Anantnag, carried out intensive inspections across Bijbehara and adjoining areas today, sources said.
The inspection drive was aimed at verifying compliance with the provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act and Rules, with particular focus on the sale, storage, and documentation of medicines. Teams of drug control officers visited several retail and wholesale medical establishments to examine adherence to licence conditions and prescribed norms.
Sources revealed that CCTV surveillance systems and computerized billing records of various firms were examined to ensure transparency in sales and to verify that medicines, especially those falling under restricted categories, were being dispensed strictly as per regulations. Records relating to the purchase and sale of drugs were also thoroughly scrutinized.
During the drive, serious violations were detected at three medical shops. “The operations of those establishments were closed on the spot for violation of drug sale licence conditions and non-compliance with mandatory norms,” sources said, adding that further proceedings under relevant provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act are being initiated.
Sources further stated that the department will continue such surprise inspections across the district to ensure that the medicine supply chain remains regulated and that patients receive safe and quality drugs.
The department also urged all licence holders to maintain proper records, install functional CCTV systems, and strictly follow billing and prescription norms to avoid punitive action. Highly placed sources reiterated the department’s commitment to safeguarding public health and warned that any deviation from established rules would invite strict enforcement measures in the coming days.
