Srinagar, Jan 16, KDC: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Crime Branch Kashmir has filed a charge sheet in connection with an alleged medical admission scam involving ₹13 lakh before a court in Baramulla, officials said.

The charge sheet in FIR No. 10/2024 has been submitted under Sections 420 (cheating) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code before the court of the Sub-Judge, Baramulla, against Aquib Javeed and Mohd Ahtesham Ahmad, both residents of Adarsh Nagar, Ring Road area of Kalaburagi district in Karnataka.

According to officials, the case was registered following a written complaint in which the complainant alleged that he was approached by one Dr Shamsu-Din, working at Al-Amin Medical College in Bijapur, Karnataka, who assured him of arranging MBBS admission for his son through Aquib Javeed. Acting on the assurance, the complainant paid ₹13 lakh.

However, officials said that neither was the complainant’s son provided admission to any medical college nor was the money returned.

Following the complaint, the Economic Offences Wing initiated an investigation, which revealed that Aquib Javeed, in alleged criminal conspiracy with his brother Mohd Ahtesham Ahmad, cheated the complainant by falsely promising admission to KBN Medical College, Bijapur, officials said.

The investigation established offences under Sections 420 and 120-B IPC against the accused, following which the charge sheet was filed before the court in absentia by initiating proceedings under Section 512 of the Criminal Procedure Code, they added.
