Srinagar, Dec 08: Jammu and Kashmir Police in Ganderbal achieved a major breakthrough in a sensitive security case related to the violation of ‘No Flying Zone’ restrictions imposed during the Amarnath Ji Yatra–2025.

An official said that a drone, illegally operated over the notified restricted area, was brought down by security forces using soft-kill methods to avert any potential threat to the Yatra.

As per the MHA guidelines, the entire Yatra corridor was strictly designated as a ‘No Drone Zone’, prohibiting any unmanned aerial vehicle activity to ensure foolproof security of the pilgrims and peaceful culmination of the Yatra.

Following the incident, FIR No. 26/2025, U/S 223 BNS was registered at Police Station Gund, and investigation was taken up. Furthermore, on the directions of SSP Ganderbal, a team of technical experts conducted a detailed forensic examination of the seized drone to retrieve operational data and identify the operators involved in using the drone over no fly zone.

Based on the FSL report, Ganderbal Police was  successful in  identification of the accused individuals namely; Owais Muneer Khan, S/o Muneer Ahmad Khan, R/o Sanat Nagar, Srinagar; and Farooz Ahmad Nengroo, S/o Abdul Rashid Nengroo, R/o Munwar-Abad, Khanyar, Srinagar who were responsible for flying the drone without any permission in the restricted zone.

The official said that both the accused have been apprehended and produced before the Court  and charge-sheeted in the case.

Ganderbal Police reassured the public of its dedication to safeguarding the sanctity and security of Amarnath Ji Yatra through proactive measures and prompt enforcement of the law
