Srinagar, Nov 29, KDC: Cold wave conditions tightened their grip across Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh, with several places in the Valley recording the season’s lowest minimum temperatures.

According to data compiled by Kashmir Weather, freezing nights dominated the region as the mercury dipped well below the freezing point at many stations.

In the Kashmir Valley, Srinagar recorded a minimum of –3.1°C, while Qazigund and Pahalgam plunged to –3.4°C and –5.2°C respectively. The coldest temperatures in the Valley were reported from Zojila Pass, which dropped to a bone-chilling –16.0°C. Pampore (–6.0°C), Srinagar Airport (–5.2°C), Awantipora (–5.0°C), and Zethan Rafiabad (–5.6°C) also experienced severe cold.

In northern Kashmir, Kupwara recorded –4.9°C, Kokernag –1.6°C, and the famous ski-resort Gulmarg settled at 1.3°C, reported news agency Kashmir Dot Com.

The Jammu region witnessed comparatively milder conditions, though temperatures dipped notably in the higher reaches. Jammu and Jammu Airport both recorded 9.4°C, while Katra stood at 8.6°C. Banihal registered –0.3°C, Bhaderwah 0.4°C, Rajouri 1.2°C, and Udhampur 4.0°C.

The Ladakh region continued to face harsh winter conditions with Leh at –9.0°C, Kargil at –10.2°C, and Nubra Valley at –8.5°C, maintaining sub-zero levels typical for this time of year.

With temperatures expected to dip further in the coming days, authorities have advised residents, especially in high-altitude and frost-prone areas, to take necessary precautions against the intense cold. (KDC)
