Srinagar, Nov 15, KDC: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday paid floral tributes to the nine people who lost their lives in the accidental blast at Nowgam police station, which also left 32 injured.

The L-G offered his respects at the Police Control Room in Srinagar. Those who took part in the wreath-laying ceremony included NIA Director General Sadanand Date, J-K DGP Nalin Prabhat, and senior officials from the Army, CRPF, and other security forces, along with officers from civil administration.

Among the deceased were six police personnel — State Investigation Agency Inspector Israr Ahmad Shah, Selection Grade Constables Javaid Mansoor Rather and Arshid Ahmad Shah (Crime Branch photographers), and Constables Aijaz Afzal Mir, Mohammad Amin Mir, and Showkat Ahmad Bhat from the Forensic Science Laboratory. The other three victims included Naib Tehsildar Muzaffar Ahmed Khan, area chowkidar Suhail Ahmad Rather, and tailor Mohammad Shafi Parray.

Earlier, the Lieutenant Governor visited Ujala Cygnus Hospital and SMHS Hospital to inquire about the condition of those injured in the blast, ensuring medical attention and support.

The Nowgam police station explosion has been described as accidental, occurring while a specialised team was examining a large cache of explosives confiscated from Haryana’s Faridabad in connection with an ongoing investigation into a ‘white-collar terror module’. (KDC)
