Jammu, Nov 4 (KDC): The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Tuesday registered a case and arrested a revenue official for demanding and accepting a bribe in Samba district, the agency said.
In an official statement issued to Kashmir Dot Com (KDC), the ACB said it registered FIR No. 19/2025 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, against Sunil Kumar, Patwari, Patwar Halqa Dadui, Tehsil and District Samba, for demanding and accepting illegal gratification from a complainant.
According to the ACB, the complainant approached the Bureau alleging that the Patwari demanded a bribe of ₹1,00,000 for preparing a report sought by the Tehsildar Samba regarding correction of Girdawari. After negotiation, the accused agreed to accept ₹80,000 instead. The complainant, unwilling to pay the bribe, reported the matter to the ACB.
Following the complaint, a discreet verification was conducted, which confirmed the demand. Consequently, a formal case was registered and an investigation taken up.
“During the course of investigation, a trap team was constituted which successfully caught the accused public servant red-handed while demanding and accepting the bribe amount of ₹20,000 from the complainant in the presence of independent witnesses,” the ACB statement said.
The accused was immediately arrested on the spot after completing legal formalities. The tainted money was recovered from his possession in the presence of witnesses associated with the trap team.
The Bureau further stated that during the search of the accused’s personal vehicle, a huge cash amount of over ₹35 lakh was recovered and seized. A search was also conducted at his residential premises in the presence of magistrates.
“The investigation of the case is in progress,” the ACB added. (KDC)
