Srinagar, Oct 18: In a major breakthrough, Srinagar Police have arrested six absconders who had been evading arrest for several years—some for over two decades, a police spokesperson said on Saturday.

According to the spokesperson, acting on specific intelligence inputs, a special police team carried out a targeted operation that led to the successful apprehension of the accused wanted in various criminal cases registered at different police stations in Srinagar. After completing all legal formalities, the arrested persons were produced before the Hon’ble Court.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Mehraj-ud-Din Marazi of Sonwar, who had been absconding for 11 years in a case under the NDPS Act; Arshid Ahmad Shoora of Lalbazar, evading arrest for eight years in a case under the NI Act; Habibulla Bhat of Kupwara, absconding for 27 years in a case under RPC; Gowhar Ahmad Wani of Budgam, evading arrest for four years in a theft case; Mashooq Ahmad Sheikh of Shopian, absconding for four years in a theft case; and Uneeb Mukhtiyar Nathkhan of Soura, absconding for 16 years in a case under RPC.

“Srinagar Police remain committed to upholding the rule of law and ensuring that no person evading justice is allowed to remain beyond its reach,” the spokesperson said.
