Srinagar, October 15, KDC: In a swift and decisive action, Srinagar Police have arrested all three accused involved in a violent assault case reported from Qamarwari, just hours after the incident. The arrests were made during a series of overnight raids across different parts of the city, officials said on Wednesday.
The incident took place on October 14 near Haroon Bakery at Hilal Abad, Qamarwari, where a youth, identified as Noman Yaqoob Khanday, was attacked with an axe by unidentified assailants. Following the assault, the victim’s father, Mohd Yaqoob Khanday, a resident of Bilal Colony, Qamarwari, lodged a complaint at Police Post Qamarwari.
Acting swiftly, police registered FIR No. 100/2025 under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) — Sections 126(2), 115(2), and 109 — at Police Station Parimpora and launched an intensive investigation.
During the probe, police teams cordoned off suspected areas, examined CCTV footage, and verified vehicle movement linked to the incident. The operation led to the identification and arrest of three accused persons:
-
Sahil Yaqoob Grustoo, son of Mohd Yaqoob Grustoo, resident of Boatman Colony.
-
Farooq alias Farhan Ahmad Dar, son of Gh. Nabi Dar, resident of Boatman Colony.
-
Bilal Ahmad Guroo, son of Zahoor Ahmad Guroo, resident of Boatman Colony, Bemina.
All three were apprehended during overnight raids, and the weapon of offence (axe) was subsequently recovered.
Preliminary investigation suggests that the attack was motivated by a personal grudge, though police said all possible angles are being probed.
“Srinagar Police remains committed to taking prompt and decisive action against all forms of social crimes that threaten public peace and order. No leniency will be shown to those involved in such acts,” an official spokesperson said, adding that efforts are underway to ensure the city remains safe and secure. (KDC)
