Srinagar, Oct 14, KDC: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Crime Branch Kashmir has filed a chargesheet before the Court of Sub Judge Kupwara against one Salim Akbar, accused of duping several insurance policy holders through fraudulent collections.
According to a spokesperson, the chargesheet was filed in connection with FIR No. 253/2023 registered at Police Station Kupwara under Sections 420 IPC and 66D of the IT Act. The case was initially reported at Police Post Dragmulla after complaints surfaced that the accused, a resident of Hyhama Batapora, Kupwara, had been deceiving innocent policy holders by collecting installment payments in the name of reputed insurance companies.
Investigations revealed that the accused, who had previously worked as a tele-caller with Max Life Insurance and Aditya Birla Sun Life, had been diverting policy payments into his own bank accounts without the knowledge of the actual firms.
The Crime Branch said the investigation established a well-planned fraud involving cheating and breach of trust. Following the probe, the chargesheet was formally submitted before the competent court for judicial determination.
The agency said the filing of the chargesheet marks a significant step toward ensuring accountability in white-collar crimes and protecting citizens from financial fraud. (KDC)
