Srinagar, Oct 1 (KDC): Peoples Conference State Secretary Imran Sheikh on Wednesday welcomed the government’s action of sealing the Tehreek-e-Hurriyat headquarters in Hyderpora, Budgam, under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), but at the same time questioned the “selectivity” in the ongoing crackdown against separatists.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Sheikh appreciated Jammu and Kashmir Police for the move, terming it a step in the right direction against separatist and terror networks which, he said, “must be dismantled brick by brick.”
However, the Sheikh stressed that the government must apply the law uniformly and not selectively.
“But why the selectivity? Action must be uniform, not convenient,” Sheikh wrote. He pointed out that while some separatist leaders continue to enjoy state protocol and security, others face FIRs, arrests, and sealing of properties.
He further alleged that certain “mainstream dynasts” openly echo separatist rhetoric under state patronage, questioning the double standards in the approach towards curbing separatist activities.
“Such double standards weaken the fight. For Kashmir to truly move forward, rule of law must be equal, firm, and uncompromising — not selective, not political,” Sheikh asserted.
The remarks came a day after Budgam Police attached the head office of the banned Tehreek-e-Hurriyat outfit at Rehmatabad, Hyderpora, under Section 25 of the UAPA in connection with a case registered last year. (KDC)
