Srinagar, July 11, KDC: In a decisive move against the growing menace of drug trafficking, Srinagar Police has attached immovable property worth approximately ₹1 crore belonging to a notorious drug peddler, under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
The property, comprising a single-storeyed residential house and 17 marlas of land located in Lawaypora, Srinagar, was identified as illegally acquired through proceeds generated from narcotics trafficking. The property belongs to Zubair Ahmad Sheikh, son of Late Gulzar Ahmad Sheikh, a resident of the area who is presently involved in FIR No. 39/2025 under Sections 8/21 and 29 of the NDPS Act, registered at Police Station Shaltang.
According to the police, Zubair has a long and disturbing history of drug peddling, and his activities have primarily targeted local youth, posing a serious threat to public health, social order, and community well-being. The investigations revealed that Zubair had been operating a well-established narcotics network in the Valley, and the attached property was acquired as a result of profits earned from illegal drug trade.
Notably, Zubair has been named in several criminal cases across multiple police jurisdictions in Jammu and Kashmir. These include earlier cases registered at Police Station Parimpora under FIR No. 16/2020 for theft and cheating, and FIR No. 73/2020 for similar IPC offences. He also faced serious charges in FIR No. 170/2019 at PS Sumbal under sections involving fraud, criminal conspiracy, and destruction of evidence. In addition, he was involved in cases related to assault and obstruction (FIR No. 61/2023) at PS Shaltang, and multiple drug-related cases in Pattan and Srinagar under the NDPS Act, including FIR No. 08/2024 and FIR No. 61/2024, both highlighting his repeat offences in narcotics trafficking. His current involvement in FIR No. 39/2025 underlines his continued role in endangering youth through drug abuse.
Acting on these findings, and in line with Sections 68-E and 68-F of the NDPS Act, Srinagar Police formally seized and attached the residential property following due legal procedure. The attached property is now under legal restriction and cannot be sold, transferred, or otherwise dealt with without prior approval from the competent authority.
This development is part of the Jammu and Kashmir Police’s sustained and intensified campaign to dismantle drug networks and their financial infrastructure. Officials emphasized that such measures not only target the traffickers themselves but aim to eliminate the economic incentives and support systems that allow the drug trade to flourish in the region.
Srinagar Police reiterated its firm commitment to continue taking strict action against those involved in the illegal drug trade and appealed to the public to play a proactive role in this collective fight. Citizens have been urged to come forward with credible information regarding drug peddling in their localities, assuring confidentiality and swift action. (KDC)
