Srinagar, Apr 24: In response to reports of Kashmiri students facing harassment in various states outside Jammu and Kashmir, political leaders from the region have called for immediate action to ensure their safety.

National Conference vice-president and former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said he is in touch with the Chief Ministers of the states from where these reports are emerging.

“I’m also in touch with my counterpart Chief Ministers in these states and have requested they take extra care,” Omar said in a post on X, adding that the J&K government is monitoring the situation and coordinating with the concerned state governments.

People’s Democratic Party (PDP) president and former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti said she has spoken to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, urging him to intervene in light of threats being issued to Kashmiri students and traders.

“Spoke with Home Minister Amit Shah to extend my deepest condolences and also express solidarity with the bereaved families of the Pahalgam terror attack. We stand with the nation in this hour of mourning,” she said. “I also requested him to intervene urgently as certain elements are openly threatening Kashmiri students and traders across various states.”

She appealed for immediate protection and action wherever such incidents are being reported.

People’s Conference chairman Sajad Lone also voiced concern, citing multiple instances where Kashmiri students were allegedly harassed, assaulted, and even evicted from their residences.

“I request the Union Government to ensure the safety and security of Kashmiri students,” he said. (KDC)
