Bijbehara, Apr 11, KDC: Authorities on Friday suspended the operation of Abdullah Medical Store, located opposite Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Bijbehara, for violating license conditions and allegedly dispensing expired injectable medicine to a patient.
An official told news agency Kashmir Dot Com that acting on a complaint regarding the sale of expired injectable medicine, a joint team of Drug Control Officers from District Anantnag and police personnel from Police Station Bijbehara conducted a surprise inspection at the store. During the raid, the team examined CCTV footage and other records, establishing that the licensee had violated prescription norms and several licensing conditions, he said.
The store was found to have dispensed medicines — including those prone to abuse — in contravention of norms. Authorities have demanded relevant records from the licensee for further legal action. Consequently, the medical store’s operations were suspended on the spot pending the completion of the investigation. Over a dozen samples of various drug categories were lifted for testing and quality analysis.
In addition to Abdullah Medical Store, the inspection team visited more than 15 other medical establishments in and around SDH Bijbehara, including the hospital’s own drug store and dispensing section.
Operations of three more medical stores — Shafeeq Medical Store, Javeed Medical Store (both opposite SDH), and Zeerak Medical Store (near SDH) — were also suspended for failing to properly maintain computerized records of medicines.
The inspection team later requested the Medical Superintendent of SDH Bijbehara to instruct healthcare professionals at the facility to ensure legible and complete prescription writing and to improve hygiene within the dispensary, emphasizing that such steps are crucial for patient care. (KDC)
