SRINAGAR: Dr. Nuzhat Bashir Shah has assumed charge as the Director of Ayush, Jammu & Kashmir, becoming the first woman to lead the Directorate.
With extensive experience in the Ayush sector, she has previously served as District Ayush Officer, Anantnag, and Deputy Director Ayush.
Dr. Nuzhat has played a key role in various initiatives, including organizing the International Day of Yoga at SKICC, Srinagar, in 2024, attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
She has also served as the Nodal Officer for Shri Amarnath Yatra since 2021, overseeing Ayush Medical Camps and Yoga Camps for pilgrims. Additionally, she contributed to the organization of Yoga and Ayush camps during the G20 Summit in Srinagar in 2023.
After taking charge, Dr. Nuzhat outlined her priorities, focusing on expanding Ayush healthcare services, strengthening Ayush Health and Wellness Centres, and integrating traditional medicine with mainstream healthcare. She also aims to promote medicinal plant cultivation to support farmers and entrepreneurs.
An introductory meeting was held at the Directorate of Ayush, J&K, attended by Deputy Director Ayush, Jammu Dr. Suresh Sharma, Assistant Directors Dr. Rakesh Kumar Raina and Dr. Sujad Hussain Shuja, Chief Accounts Officer Sonam Singh, Medical Superintendent of Government Ayurvedic Hospital, Jammu Dr. Vandana Dogra, and other officials. The staff expressed hope that under Dr. Nuzhat’s leadership, the Directorate will continue to advance Ayush services across J&K. (KDC)
