SRINAGAR: A newly constructed drain in Rehipora-Tangmarg, located in the Wailoo block of Baramulla, collapsed within just 20 days of its completion.
According to the Block Development Officer (BDO) of Wailoo, the contractor had executed the work during sub-zero temperatures at the onset of Chala-i-Kalan, Kashmir’s harshest winter period.
“Despite clear instructions to refrain from construction work during such extreme weather, the contractor proceeded with the project, resulting in its failure,” he said.
The BDO clarified that no measurements or billing had been conducted for the work, as it was completed by the contractor without official authorization. (KDC)
