ACB celebrated international Anti Corruption Day across the UT of J&K

International Anti-Corruption Day introduced by the United Nations, highlighting the need for collective action from governments and private sectors to eliminate corruption is observed on 9th of December every year. In this connection Jammu and Kashmir Anti Corruption Bureau organised various programmes across the UT of J&K. The theme for this year’s Anti Corruption Day is “Uniting with Youth Against Corruption: Shaping Tomorrow’s Integrity.” The theme focuses on involving youth in anti-corruption efforts.

ACB Srinagar observed the day at 06 locations at different colleges including CUK (central university of Kashmir) Ganderbal. The main event was organised at SP College Srinagar where SSP ACB Srinagar Dr Zahoor Ahmad Wani presided over the Main function with principal SP college Dr Mohd Farooq Mir and faculty member  besides gathering of a large number of students participated in the event. Other events were organised at Govt Degree Colleges Khansahab, Beerwah, Ganderbal and Women’s College Srinagar. During the events officers of ACB Srinagar and faculty members of concerned institutions deliberated on importance of the celebration of the day. A debate competition on the subject was also organised in which students and guest speakers of concerned institutions participated. During the events the students were felicitated by way of commendation certificates and mementos.

ACB Anantnag organized programs at Government Degree Colleges at Anantnag, Pulwama, Kulgam and Shopian. At Degree College Kulgam Prof. Syed Aizaz Hussain Rizwi was Chief Guest and Assistant Director Emergency and Fire Service, Sh. Gowher Hussain was guest of honour. Prof. Mehmood Tak was Chief Guest and Prof. Mohammad Shafeeq was guest of honour at Degree College Shopian. Dr. Haris Izhar, Principal was Chief Guest and Vice Principal Irfana Rasool was guest of honour at Degree College Pulwama and Principal Prof. Riyaz Ahmad Shah was Chief  Guest and Prof. Javaid Ahmad Bhat was guest of honour at Degree College Anantnag . The faculty and students of the said colleges participated in the function. Dr. Ashok Sharma, SP, Sh. Sajad Ahmad Malik, AEE, Sh. Mehraj ud-Din Raina, Dy.SP, Mst. Mansha Beig, Dy.SP, Prof.  Inspr. Manzoor Ahmad Beigh, Inspr. Mohammad Saleem Qureshi, Inspr. Basharat Ali and Inspr. Muneer Ahmad, spoke on the occasion on the menace of corruption.

ACB Baramulla organized awareness programmes at Government Degree Colleges at Bandipora, Handwara, Sopore, Kupwara and Baramulla. The events aimed to educate and sensitize students and faculty members about the menace of corruption, its far-reaching impact on society, and the critical role youth can play in combating this social evil. The programmes saw enthusiastic participation from students, with selected students delivering speeches on the theme “Uniting with the Youth.” Their presentations highlighted the urgency to address corruption and reflected their commitment to combating the issue. A short documentary prepared by the ACB was screened during the events, shedding light on the detrimental effects of corruption and showcasing the Bureau’s efforts in combating it. The screening left a strong impression on the audience, further reinforcing the importance of collective action against corruption. The students who spoke on the occasion were felicitated by way of commendation certificates.

ACB Udhampur organized a special event at Government Degree College Boys Udhampur to mark International Anti-Corruption Day. The event saw the participation of students from GDC Udhampur, GDC Neeli Nallah, GDC Ramnagar, GDC Majalta and GDC Chenani. Several speakers emphasized the significance of youth involvement in the fight against corruption. The Principal of the College  was the chief guest and addressed the gathering on the topic. Mohd Rashid Bhat, SSP highlighted the crucial role that young people can play in curbing corruption. The event concluded with a pledge from the students and the audience to uphold integrity and lead corruption-free lives.

ACB Doda organized programmes at Government Degree Colleges at Banihal, Doda and Kishtwar. Debate competitions were held on the topic “Corruption a Subversive evil for Social, Political, Economic, and Environmental Prosperity” were held in these colleges. The students who secured Ist, 2nd & 3rd positions were awarded with the certificates alongwith books, whereas, the other students were awarded with participation certificate. Sh. Rakesh Kumar, SSP ACB Doda were present at GDC Banihal. 

ACB Rajouri organized programmes at GDC Rajouri and at GDC Poonch. A debate completion for the students of colleges was held on the topic “Technology and Anti-Corruption Initiatives”. During the programme at GDC Poonch, 1st, 2nd & 3rd positions were secured by Mohd.Rizwan (Student of GDC Poonch), Ms Nahima Rather (Student of GDC Poonch) and Miss Zahima Kouser (Student of GDC Surankote), respectively. They were  awarded with the certificates and books whereas other participants were awarded participation certificates. Professor Waseem Ul Haq administered the Introductory part of the Theme at GDC Poonch and Shri Amit Verma, SSP ACB Rajouri delivered the lecture on the topic and apprised the students regarding the Technology and Anti-corruption initiatives encouraging the students to raise bold voice against the corruption. At GDC Rajouri 1st, 2nd & 3rd positions were secured by Muskan Mir (student of GDC Thanamandi), Trisha Gupta (student of GDC Rajouri) and Aaqib-Ul-Haq (student of GDC Thanamandi) respectively.

ACB Jammu organized events at Government Degree College Billawar (District Kathua), Samba, R.S. Pura, Akhnoor, and Government College for Women, Parade (District Jammu). Students from these colleges participated enthusiastically in debates, showcasing critical thinking and engaging in meaningful dialogue on the consequences of corruption and strategies to combat it. The primary objective of these activities was to raise awareness among the students about the adverse effects of corruption, promote ethical behavior, and empower individuals, particularly the youth to actively oppose corrupt practices. Observing International Anti-Corruption Day-2024 served as a reminder of the significance of collective action in fostering transparency, accountability, and good governance. At the conclusion of the events, winners, first runners-up, and second runners-up of the debate competitions were honored with appreciation certificates and books. Participation certificates were also awarded to all participants as a token of encouragement and recognition for their efforts. (KDC)
