SRINAGAR: The residents of Rajouri have demaded the construction of a bypass road to alleviate the growing traffic congestion in the city.
Locals while talking to Srinagar based news gathering agency Kashmir Dot Com said that the heavy vehicular movement through the municipal area, particularly from Thannamandi, Darhal, Poonch via DKG, and the Mughal Road, has turned the city center into a bottleneck, causing daily inconveniences for commuters and residents alike.
“The proposed bypass road would connect Darhali Morh (Fatehpur) to Salani Bridge or Workshop Bridge, linking the Jammu-Poonch Highway. This alternative route aims to divert vehicles away from the city center, reducing traffic jams and improving overall travel efficiency,” they said.
Locals argue that the bypass is not only essential for easing vehicular movement but also critical for ensuring pedestrian safety. With fewer vehicles crowding the streets, the risk of accidents within the city would decrease, improving the quality of life for residents.
“The congestion has made commuting a daily struggle, especially during peak hours. A bypass road is the need of the hour,” said a local resident.
“The bypass will also enhance regional connectivity, particularly for vehicles traveling between Kashmir via Mughal Road and areas such as Thannamandi and Poonch. Improved infrastructure would support economic growth by facilitating smoother transportation, boosting trade, and attracting tourism to the area,” he said..
Residents have appealed to the Central Government, the Jammu and Kashmir UT Administration, the Border Roads Organization (BRO), the Public Works Department (PWD), and the District Administration to prioritize this project, adding that constructing this bypass is vital to addressing the escalating traffic challenges in the Rajouri Municipal Council area.
