SRINAGAR: The Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Bandipora, Nizamuddin Bhat, on Friday urged the Speaker of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly to push the government for a review and relaxation of the employee verification process.
Bhat, according to the Srinagar-based news agency Kashmir Dot Com, while addressing the J&K Legislative Assembly, highlighted cases where deserving youth, according to the legislator, have been denied government jobs due to the alleged criminal background of distant relatives.
The legislator cited the case of Sobiya Mushtaq, an orphan girl, who, as per MLA Bandipora, was denied employment twice due to issues related to her family’s background.
He also raised concerns over the brother of journalist Sajad Gul, who, according to the MLA, despite being selected on merit for a government department, faced a delay in verification, allegedly due to his familial associations.
Bhat said that such policies are unjustly penalizing innocent individuals, particularly youths and those from disadvantaged backgrounds.
He called for Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to intervene and address the issue, ensuring that the employment verification process does not punish individuals for the unrelated actions of their relatives. (KDC)
