Ganderbal, May 13, KDC: In a heartwarming display of civic duty, a groom in full wedding attire surprised onlookers as he made his way to a polling station in the Kangan area of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district. As the fourth phase of voting for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections unfolded, this unique scene captured the attention of social media users, with a viral video showcasing the groom’s determination to cast his vote amidst wedding celebrations.

Ganderbal district, nestled within the Srinagar constituency, witnessed an active participation in the electoral process as polling stations buzzed with voters exercising their franchise. The Srinagar constituency, alongside 92 others across the nation, is undergoing polling in this phase of the Lok Sabha polls.

Speaking to reporters amidst the excitement, the groom according to Srinagar based news agency Kashmir Dot Com emphasized the importance of participating in the democratic process. “This is our duty to exercise our right to franchise and choose our representatives, so I’m here to cast my vote,” he stated, encapsulating the spirit of responsible citizenship.

Despite the festive atmosphere, the significance of this election resonated deeply with the voters. Srinagar reported a 14.94 percent voter turnout by 11 am on Monday, with long queues forming outside polling stations as eager citizens awaited their opportunity to contribute to the democratic process.

This election marks a pivotal moment for Jammu and Kashmir, as it is the first major electoral event since the abrogation of Article 370 and the subsequent restructuring of the region into two union territories in 2019. Amidst these historic changes, the sight of a groom exercising his electoral rights serves as a poignant reminder of the enduring spirit of democracy in the region.(KDC)
